Packing Tips

  • Use standard same size box when possible, so that they will stack easier and more efficiently. Try to store heavier boxes on bottom.
  • Leave airspace between the item/boxes and the walls of the unit to allow for proper
ventilation. You can put dryer sheets in unit to keep items smelling fresh.
  • Store unneeded items towards the back of the unit, and more important items closer to the
front of the unit. If possible leave a walkway down the middle to access items.
  • Cover everything with plastic sheeting or a tarp. This will add protection from any possible moisture.
  • Utilize all your space, pack from floor to ceiling. Remember sofa’s can be stored on their sides and use the height to save on space.
  • Place all furniture on wooden pallets or 2’x 4’s, to keep off concrete and provide air circulation between the furniture and floor.
  • Mattresses should be stored in a plastic bag to avoid dust and unwanted moisture.
  • Appliances should be cleaned and free of any debris inside of them; the door can be left ajar to allow air circulation.
  • Electronic equipment is better stored in their original boxes.
  • Freezing is a natural threat; do not store any items that might break if frozen.
